Corby does not hold back on telling his story, painting pictures through riveting rhythm. As he continues to write his name in the chapters of Ghana’s music scene, we can’t help it but find out about his creative process, his influences and the heights he dreams of attaining with his fine talent.

Eastern Child: First of all, before we delve into the story behind the brand Corby, tell the world about your debut EP “Anxious Attachments”. What inspired the masterpiece ?

CORBY:It’s a story I had to look back on to truly understand. Anxious Attachments came from the moments that shaped me, the highs, the heartbreak, the lessons and the healing. It’s messy, but beautiful and honest.

2. My personal favourite is “Ascension”, I love everything about that song…What was your state of mind when you were writing that song?

CORBY:There was a lot of frustration and negativity I was feeling at the time, and I was just tired of carrying that energy. Writing Ascension was the shift that felt I was rising above everything that had me stuck.

3. Now let’s delve into the personality behind the brand and the journey so far. What first sparked your passion for singing, and was there a defining moment when you knew this was your path?

CORBY:It started with curiosity. As a child, I’d hear songs and try to sing along just to see if I could sound like what I was hearing. It became an adventure, one that led to writing my first song and never really stopped.

4. How would you describe your unique musical style, and what influences have shaped the sound you bring to your fans?

CORBY:I call it the ‘Corby Experience’ haha. I was never someone who stuck to one thing. One day it was Adele, the next it was P-Square. That blend of influences is why my sound doesn’t sit in one box. It’s a little bit of everywhere I’ve been emotionally and musically.

5. Who’s been the biggest influence or mentor in your career and how have they shaped your approach to music?

CORBY:Tems. I’ve always loved great songwriting, but something about the way she tells her story made me go deeper with mine. It helped me feel more confident showing up as my full self in my songs.

6. How do you balance staying authentic to your artistic vision with the expectations of fans or the music industry?

CORBY:By checking in with myself constantly. I don’t want to lose the honesty in my music trying to fit into expectations. I think I’m still discovering parts of myself, and I’m proud of the growth so far. Whatever stage I find myself in, I’m always going to stay true to what Corby stands for.

7. What role does storytelling play in your songs, and how do you connect with your audience through your lyrics?

CORBY:Storytelling is how I process things. My songs hold the different versions of me. The parts of me that were confused, healing, growing. I think that’s why people connect with it, because they’re real stories we’ve all felt in some way.

8. How has your voice or style evolved over time, and what challenges have you faced in growing as a singer?

CORBY:I’m more in tune with myself now, especially emotionally. I used to overthink everything. I still do sometimes, but I’ve learned to let go of the pressure to be perfect and just be. That shift has really changed how I create.

9. What’s the most surprising lesson you’ve learned about the music industry since starting out?

CORBY:That as much as you love the art, there’s still strategy involved. I thought it was all just about the music, but there’s a whole other side that’s about making an impact and branding. Learning how to balance both sides has been one of the biggest shifts for me.

10. What’s your favorite song to perform and why does it hold a special place for you?

CORBY:Ascension. It’s such a vibe and gives me space to express myself freely. When I perform it, it feels like I’m in my own world. Just me, the mic, and that moment.

11. How do you keep the creative spark alive and avoid burnout in the fast-paced music world?

CORBY:Burnout is real, but creativity helps me bounce back. Finding a new melody or writing that perfect line reminds me why I love this. And honestly, rest is part of the process too. I’m learning to take care of myself along the way.

12. What’s next for Corby? Are there any dream collaborations, new genres, or exciting projects you’re working on?

CORBY:I’m discovering new sides of myself, and that’s shaping where the music is heading. I’m excited about what’s coming next. I’d love to collaborate with artists like Tems, Amaarae, Jacob Banks, Sishii, Omah Lay. Anyone whose music carries real emotion and soul.
